PRERNA AWARDS 2024

 

OBJECTIVE

 

The competition’s main aim is to foster excellence in language & creativity by providing a platform to develop their expressive talents and creative ideas & presentation skills along with connecting them to their roots & cultural heritage.

 

We hope to make language not as school work, but as a form of communication and self-expression – one of the most important 21st century skills.

 

 

BRIEF RULES & REGUALTIONS

 

# Registration will be complete only upon payment confirmation acknowledged by Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd. Singapore

 

*Shortlisted entries will be invited for presentation in front of the Jury Panel on final competition day to be informed via email and it will be held over the weekends in July 2024.

 

  • Entries have to follow one of the given themes

 

 

  • You can submit your entries in one or more language in your age group via website submission, designated partner organization with subject for Prerna award 2023-24 / Language & Name of the participant submission before the submission date of 30 Oct ‘2023 upon registration and payment.

 

  • Complete Script, presentation & /or Video has to be submitted with only registration numbers by 5 pm, 31 Oct, Tuesday.

 

  • Participants are free to use any medium for telling their stories ranging from PowerPoint, Comic Strips, Playacting, and Puppet etc.

 

  • Presenters are expected to be innovative in their choice of topic, drawing upon combinations of research, personal experience and imagination.

  

·         Your email with submission should contain the following information in the mail body & separate cover with the script.

 

a.    Title of your submission , Age &  Language

b.    your name

c.    your contact details (phone number and email address)

d.    Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd registration number

e.    the  language of your submission

f.     a short personal introduction of no more than 50 words on yourself in English

g.    short summary of submission in English /Hindi in less than 100 words

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

 

INITIAL POWERPOINT / VIDEO SUBMISIION & PRESENTATION ON STAGE IF SHORTLISTED

 

  1. Stories & presentation must be original by the participant. Where research is used, sources should be identified. Judges may disqualify competitors for plagiarism.
  2. Participants are free to choose their own topic. However, they are expected to monitor the content and delivery of the speeches according to the standards of good taste and according to the theme of the competition.
  3. Presenters should use language, which is appropriate to the topic, the audience and the formality of the occasion. Avoid off-color jokes, slang expressions and “bathroom humor”.
  4. Statements which might be construed as slanderous, embarrassing, or containing gender, cultural, or racial stereotypes are unsuitable for a public speaking competition. Speakers, from the beginning, should consider their intended audience to be “the public” – a mixed age group, not simply an audience of peers.
  5. Participants are expected to dress neatly and appropriately to suit the formality of the occasion, and to stand appropriately on the platform.
  6. Gestures & expressions can be dramatic and props are allowed to be used for Story Telling. Examples turning one’s back to the audience, ugly signage).
  7. Notes on cards not exceeding 3” x 5” in size are permitted for reference for final competition
  8. Presentation hall not be less than two minutes and not more than 10 minutes in length. One point shall be deducted for each ten seconds or part thereof over or under this time limit.
  9. The decision of the judges shall be final and binding on all the participants & organizers.

 

 

JUDGING CRITERIA

 

 Entries will be judged on four criteria with equal emphasis on each:

 

•           Concept & Presentation

 

•           Voice and Tone in Writing

 

•           Creativity & Innovation

 

•           Organized and Cohesive Work

 

JUDGING CRITERIA FOR STORY TELLING PRESENTATION

 

 

10 Points

 

A virtually flawless presentation in every respect – no memory slips, false starts or significant pronunciation errors of any kind. Creative expression and intonation are appropriate to the content and flow spontaneously, indicating an excellent grasp of the actual content of the story and a clear insight into the writer’s intention. Presentation, whether delivered solely with voice modulations or with other appropriate gestures, reflect a high level of poise and smoothness, free from all visible signs of nervousness.

 

8 Points

 

Well balanced recitation with very few or no memory slips or false starts, and no more than 1 or 2 significant pronunciation errors. Creative expression and intonation are appropriate to the poem and flow spontaneously, indicating a good grasp of the content and a definite feel for the writer’s intentions. Presentation is executed with a high level of poise and smoothness, flawed only in a small degree due to slight nervousness.

 

6 Points

 

Good recitation with an occasional memory slip or false start and perhaps several significant pronunciation errors which begin to interfere with smoothness and delivery. Creative expression and intonation appropriate to the content but lacking somewhat in spontaneity and ease, tending to suggest less than adequate preparation. Presentation, suffering from lack of poise and smoothness, is hindered by nervousness.

 

4 Points

 

Fair presentation with several memory slips or false starts and a considerable number of pronunciation errors which definitely interfere with smoothness of delivery. Creative expression and intonation lacking considerably or inappropriate for the content.

 

2 Points

 

Poor presentation with persistent, serious memory slips and pronunciation errors which keep the content from holding together in delivery. Overwhelming absence of appropriate creative expression and intonation, poise and spontaneity.  Participant finishes presentation.

 

0 Point

 

Disqualification, Participant does not finish the presentation, even if 2/3 is recited. The participant MUST FINISH in order and receiving a score of 1 or more.

  

 

 

PRIZES

 

There are three prizes in each of the three categories:

 

Best Entry:              Gold

 

First Runner Up:     Silver

 

Second Runner Up:  Bronze

 

Honorable Mentions:  Certificate of Appreciation

 

 

Selected entries will also be published on Prerna Awards various online channels and e publications!

All Participants get certificate of participation from the organizers.

 

For the purposes of this competition, “Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd ” & its partners refer only to confirmed partners before the closing of registration date.

 

This contest is open to all fully paid-up members of Global Hindi Foundation / and registered participants for the competition, with the exception of the judges of this contest. Your membership must be valid for the duration of this entire contest, including the announcement of the prize-winners.

 

 

STORY WRITING & STORY TELLING COMPETITION

 

 

  1. Participants are free to use any medium for telling their stories ranging from Comic Strips; Presenters are expected to be innovative in their choice of topic, drawing upon combinations of research, personal experience and imagination.

 

  1. Entries should be between 300-1500 words in length and presentation of min 2 minutes to maximum 10 minutes. The story must be entirely the original work of the entrant and must have reference to any folk tale. Stories can be about anything under the sun, so long as they follow the theme & guidelines and must include one verse (4 lines) of poetry (quoted or original)

 

  1. Entries should be type written / scanned in jpg. and submitted as a SEPARATE attachment in Microsoft Word (.doc, docx), Rich Text (.rtf) or Plain Text (.txt) format to the email address above by the deadline. 

 

  1. Shortlisted entries will be invited semi-final & final competition .Contestant have to submit a video / link  to  private you  tube of 2-3 minutes duration along with the transcript via email to singaporelanguage@gmail.com.

 

  1. Please attach a short summary of not more than 100 words in English with your Name / Tel / Email /Address/ Date of Birth  

 

 

  1. Initial shortlisting of entries is undertaken by a team of experienced readers associated with the organizing team. Final judging of the shortlist will be undertaken by experienced writers appointed by the organizers.

 

  1. The organizers reserve the right to modify judging mechanics and change the judging panel without notice and not to award prizes or host a prize giving if, in the organizers opinion, such an action is justified for any reason.

 

 

  1. The judges’ decision is final and neither the judges nor the organizers will enter into any correspondence.

 

  1. Judges are unable to comment on individual entries.

 

  1. Your title will not be the part of the word count.

 

  1. Contractions count as one word. Hyphenated words are one word.

 

  1. Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form and payment accepted. All entries will be considered anonymously by the judges.

 

  1. Inappropriate language or comments will be disqualified (vulgarity, swearing and that sort).

 

  1. No (explicit) sexual content is allowed.

 

  1. No religious references can be made.

 

  1. Video Recording or link to uploaded video on you tube of one to be send via email to singaporelanguage@gmail.com before 25 Jan’18.

 

  1. Entries must be typed; single sided A4. Handwritten entries may be scanned and must be legible. A video submission via email or private YouTube link of the story telling also has to be submitted along with the transcript. Shortlisted participants will have to present in front of the judges.

 

  1. Entries must never have been published, self-published, published on any website or broadcast in any form nor currently entered in any other competition. The poem must not have won a prize in any previous competition.

 

  1. Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form and payment accepted. All entries will be considered anonymously by the judges.

 

  1. Competitions entries will not be returned, so please keep a copy of your submission. 

 

  1. We are unable under any circumstances to allow changes to be made to poems once entered or for fees to be refunded. Entrants may withdraw entries from the competition by notification in writing but any entry fees will not be refunded.

 

  1. Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd reserves the right to amend these rules where it is deemed necessary to do so or where circumstances are beyond the organizers control. Any changes to the rules will be posted on the www.singaporelanguage.org website.

 

  1. The organizers cannot accept responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering the Competition

 

  1. Winners will be notified by 5th February’18 and invited to an award ceremony in early 2018. All winners will be required to provide a biography and photograph.

 

  1. The copyright of the stories remain with the authors. However, the submitted entries to the competition, grant Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd the right to publish in print and online/digital and/or broadcast their winning story in perpetuity.

 

 

 

GENERAL RULES & GUIDELINES

 

 

1.Entries have to follow the given theme;

 

 

1      Entries should be submitted to singaporelanguage@gmail.com before 5 pm Singapore time Thursday, 25 January 2017.

 

2.    Proof of submission will not be accepted as proof of receipt. You will receive an acknowledgment receipt via email of your submission. Please keep a copy of this acknowledgment for your own records.

 

3.    Do NOT include your name, membership number or country anywhere on your main submission. This may result in immediate disqualification as the judges will be reviewing on a ‘blinded’ basis.

 

4.    Instead, such personal particulars should be found in the body of your email submission which should contain ONLY the following information:

a.    your name

b.    your contact details (phone number and email address)

c.    Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd registration number

d.    the  language of your submission

e.    a short personal introduction of no more than 50 words on yourself in English

f.     Short summary of submission in English in less than 100 words.

 

5.    By submitting an entry, you agree that Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd may collect, use and disclose your personal data, as described in Rule 5 in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 for the purposes of this competition. Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd reserves the right to use the information provided above for purposes related to this competition and for sharing with its partners in accordance to the above and not sell the data for commercial purposes.

 

6.    You may submit more than one entry in each language. Each entry must be submitted SEPARATELY and in accordance with the requirements detailed above. However, each Participant will only be allowed to win one prize for this year’s competition regardless of the number of entries.

 

7.    Entries should be only in the language registered for i.e. Tamil/ Hindi/ Gujarati/Bangla etc. although reasonable use of other languages, real or imagined, is allowed if it is an intrinsic part of the story.

 

8.    Only original, unpublished entries will be accepted. Entries must not have been submitted for any other writing contests prior to this, or published on any public platform. 

 

9.    Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd reserves the right to disqualify entries that are found to have breached these rules, or that are found to be plagiarized or written by a person other than the participant to whom the entry is attributed. This right of disqualification may be exercised at any time, including before or after the prize-winners have been announced. Entries that have been disqualified will not be entitled to receive any prize, recognition or publication, and any prize, recognition or publication previously awarded may be rescinded.

 

10.  Entries will be judged anonymously. The judges reserve the right to award any and all prizes in whole or in part or not at all. The judges’ decision is final and not subject to appeal. Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd is not obliged to provide a reason for the judges’ decision or feedback on your entry.

 

11.  You retain all rights to your work but grant the license set out in rule below, and may subsequently use the work for other purposes without informing Singapore Language Organization

 

12.  By entering this contest, you grant Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd the irrevocable perpetual royalty-free non-exclusive right and license to use/reproduce your entry in whole or in part, at any time, for any purpose and in any medium. Your permission need not be acquired by Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd for reproducing and/or publishing your entry in accordance with this rule. Any reproduction of your work will however, be properly attributed to you as author per your submission details.

 

13.  By entering this contest and submitting an entry, you confirm that you have read and acknowledged all the rules of this contest and will abide by these rules.

 

14.  Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd will not be held liable for any problem, loss or damage of whatsoever nature suffered by any party due to any delay and/or failure in the receipt and/or submission of entries to the competition or otherwise.

 

15.  In the event of any such error, delay, damage and/or failure or otherwise, Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd shall not be held responsible or liable to any participant for the failure to participate in the competition at any time, or for any consequent loss arising from this failure.

 

16.  Shortlisted participants will be notified by 2 Jan’24. They will have to compete in front of jury panel before prize distribution day.

 

17.  Competitions entries will not be returned, so please keep a copy of your submission. We are unable under any circumstances to allow changes to be made to entries once entered or for fees to be refunded.

 

18.  Entrants may withdraw entries from the competition by notification in writing but any entry fees will not be refunded.

 

19.  Global Hindi Foundation Pte. Ltd Singapore reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to alter and/or amend these rules from time to time without notice. The organizers reserve the right to change the panel of judges without notice.

 

20.  The organizers cannot accept responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering the Competition.

 

21.  Details of the winners will be posted on the Facebook Page – Like & Share for updates  www.facebook.com/prernaawards

 

22.  There will be a prize giving ceremony in Singapore. There is a limited budget and capacity so the prize winners will be invited to collect their award in Singapore. Any additional travel costs or arrangements are strictly the responsibility of the participants.

 

23.  The Competition and Rules are governed by Singapore Law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts.

 

24.  If you have paid by transfer your transaction reference (Your Name) must be included on your entry form. Where entry has been paid by transfer and there is no reference on the entry form, the entry will be invalid and no fees will be returned. Where a transfer reference is included but no corresponding payment is made to our account, the entry will be invalid.
